Commissioner Orientation should be completed before attending Commissioner Basic Training and consists of the following e-learning segments available at myscouting.org

  1. Youth Protection - required to register as an adult volunteer
  2. This is Scouting - for a basic understanding of the Scouting movement (if needed)
  3. Unit Commissioner Fast Start - for a basic understanding of the commissioner role

For e-learning you will need to set up a user account at myscouting.org.  It is OK to set up this account initially without your BSA member ID if it's unavailable.  You'll be able to complete the courses but they won't be recoreded until you update your user profile with your BSA member ID.

Go to www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Commissioners/Manuals.aspx  You can download a copy of the "Commissioner Fieldbook for Unit Service" and the "Commissioner Helps for Packs, Troops, and Crews".  Also available from that website are downloads for "Administration for Commissioner Service" and "Unit Performance Guide".  All are very helpful guides!
